On , 18-carat gold is bought back at 81.41 €/g by Gold & Silver Company, a Belgian refinery open to private clients; 22-carat at 100.62 €/g, 14-carat at 62.23 €/g, 9-carat at 38.21 €/g, the 20 F Napoleon at 660.04 € per coin. Net prices, published and updated several times a day: that is the reference against which to compare any other offer.
Compare prices per gram, per carat, and dated
A buyback offer is compared on a single unit: euros per gram, for a given fineness, at a given date and time. An overall sum for “the lot”, a percentage of the gold price, a flat rate “per carat” without a figure per gram cannot be compared with anything: ask for the conversion. At Gold & Silver Company, the price is published at the top of this page for each carat, with the time of its update, and it is the same for a 4-gram ring and for a 500-gram lot. Today, a 4-gram 18-carat wedding ring is 325.64 €; a 10-gram signet ring, 814.10 €.
Net or gross: what is added, what is deducted
Is the figure announced the one you receive? Ask what is added or taken off: analysis fees, melting fees, administrative fees, tax levied at source. In France, the sale of gold by a private individual is subject to a flat-rate tax withheld by the buyer; in Belgium, a sale to a Belgian professional is subject to no deduction at source. With us, the price displayed is the price paid: nothing is added, nothing is deducted, and you leave with an invoice that proves it. An offer that is higher on paper but reduced by fees or a tax is compared after deduction, never before.
Weighing: in front of you, stones and clasps removed
Two buyers who announce the same price per gram will not pay the same sum if one weighs the whole piece of jewellery and the other only the gold it contains. The honest rule is the second: a calibrated scale, weighing to the hundredth of a gram before your eyes, stones, pearls, steel springs and clasps removed before weighing. It looks less advantageous when announced; it is the only one that holds once the piece of jewellery is melted. Beware of the “generous” weighing: it is always offset elsewhere.
Fineness: hallmark, test, laboratory
The hallmark states a fineness; it does not guarantee it: an old or foreign piece of jewellery may assay higher or lower than its mark. Ask how the fineness is checked: touchstone, X-ray fluorescence analysis, or laboratory on melted metal, the only exact measurement. At the office of our refinery, the laboratory is a few metres from the scale; an 18-carat piece that assays better than its hallmark is paid for what it contains, not for what is engraved on it.
The freedom to decline, and the time to compare
A serious offer is free, written or itemised line by line, and without obligation: you can leave with your items and come back the next day. Refuse any appraisal that requires you to leave the jewellery “for analysis” without an itemised receipt, any offer valid “only now”, any buyer who refuses to tell you their price per gram before seeing your items. At Gold & Silver Company, the offer is made to you immediately, at the published price, and you remain free.
Who really buys your gold
The last criterion explains all the others. An intermediary, jeweller or gold-buying counter, sells the metal on to a smelter and then to a refinery, and each link in the chain lives on the difference taken from your price per gram. A refinery that melts, assays and refines itself has nobody to pay between you and the value of the metal: it can publish its price, keep it up to date with the gold price and apply it without deduction. That is what allows Gold & Silver Company, a smelter-refinery approved by the Royal Mint of Belgium, in Dottignies (Mouscron), to display the day's price at the top of this page and to pay it as it is. To compare an offer, you therefore have everything you need: the published price, the weighing in front of you, the laboratory, the freedom to say no. Come with your jewellery and the offer you want to compare; we go through it with you.
To find out what your gold is worth, the simplest thing is to bring it to us: the office of our refinery, rue Arthur Roelandt 22 in Dottignies (Mouscron), is open on Mondays from 10am to 1pm, Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 12pm and from 1:30pm to 5pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, without appointment; weighing and analysis before your eyes, immediate offer at the published price, and you remain free. Frequently asked questions
What is the best gold buyback price today?
The published price, net, per gram and per carat: on Thursday 5 November 2026 at 17:31, 81.41 €/g for 18-carat gold at Gold & Silver Company, a Belgian refinery open to private clients. Compare any other offer with this figure, after deducting its fees.
How do you convert an overall offer into a price per gram?
Divide the sum offered by the gold weight at the fineness, stones and clasps removed; if the buyer gives you neither this weight nor this fineness, the offer is not comparable. A 10-gram 18-carat signet ring is worth 814.10 € today at the published price.
Is an offer “at the gold price minus 10%” a good one?
Only if you know which gold price is meant and to what weight of fine gold it applies. A percentage of the ounce price says nothing about the price per gram of your 18-carat; ask for the figure in euros per gram, per carat.
Are analysis or melting fees normal?
They exist with some buyers and must be deducted before comparing. At Gold & Silver Company, there are none: weighing, testing, melting and analysis are included, the price displayed is the price paid.
Should you compare several buyers on the same day?
Yes, the gold price moves every day and published prices move with it. Compare offers dated the same day, at the same fineness, on the same gold weight; an offer from the day before yesterday is no longer worth anything today.
Can I have my gold appraised without selling it?
Yes: at the office of our refinery, the appraisal is free, without an appointment and without obligation; remotely, registered mail after a call to +32 56 33 19 96 follows the same path, with an offer within 24 hours and the return of your items if you decline it.
