The certificate is missing, the metal remains
The case is more common than one imagines: a bar received as an inheritance, an assay report mislaid during a move, a document that has become illegible after decades in a safe. The holder is left with an object whose value is intact, but whose passport has disappeared.
For a reseller who has to place the bar back on the market as it stands, this missing paper is a commercial problem. For a refinery, it is not one: the bar is assayed, remelted and recertified in house. The measurement replaces the document. That is why our house buys the bar back on its real measured fineness, at the day's rate, without a mistrust discount.
Three possible routes, the choice is yours
Exchange operations carry remelting and certification fees: they are set out for you at the branch, before any decision, on the basis of the bar's assay. None of the three routes is imposed, and the appraisal commits you to nothing.

How the assay takes place
Our certified bars are checked by an assayer approved by the Royal Mint of Belgium and delivered in tamper-proof packaging: that is exactly what your orphaned bar becomes again after remelting.
- Weighing on a certified scale, before your eyes.
- Assay by spectrometry, also before your eyes: the fineness of the metal is measured, not assumed. The measurement takes fifteen minutes at most, in our own laboratory: everything happens on site, right away, not over several days of analysis in an outside laboratory.
- In the event of remelting, an assay sample taken at the pour: the refiners' reference method, applied in our own Dottignies workshop.
- Detailed statement handed over in every case: weight, measured fineness, rate applied, amount or counter-value.

Can a gold bar be sold without a certificate in Belgium?
Yes. The certificate is not a condition with us: the bar is weighed and assayed before your eyes, then paid on its real fineness at the day's rate. An identity card is enough, payment by bank transfer to your account.

Yes: the counter-value can be converted into investment gold coins handed over with an invoice. Here too, fees are set out at the branch before any decision, and a simple buyback always remains possible.
Can I cross the border with my bar to come and sell it?
Yes. Our Dottignies branch is located on the French-Belgian border, within the Schengen area, which guarantees the free movement of persons and goods. You can come from France as from anywhere in the Schengen zone for the appraisal and the sale.
Is an inherited bar without papers accepted?
Yes, it is a common case at the branch. The bar is assayed before your eyes then bought back or exchanged as you choose, in the name of the person who comes in, identity card in hand.
